CURRICULUM VITAE - MAJOR COMMISSIONS
This year we continued our long association with Image Interiors under their new name - Pad Furniture. Several proposals for new furniture items and an exciting new range of veneers and finishes for our existing range are under consideration.
Work has also begun on the fabrication of furniture components for a fabulous private library currently under construction in rural Victoria. Marcus O'Reilly, with whom I have worked over many years, is the architect for this project. Photos of the work as it progresses will be posted on this website.
The Piper Street Food Company opened new cooking school and cafe facilities this year, and we were please to be asked to make the sales counters, along cafe table, and three huge tales for the cooking school. These were done using 4mm thick end grain squares of elm from the Kyneton Gardens, pressed onto ply torsion box table tops to give the appearance of a traditional butcher's block, with the advantage of stability and light weight.
A smaller table using similar technique was also made for a private client, this time laying the thick veneers in strips at angles across the table top, with a laminated round leg at each corner.
Currently working on the internal joinery and fittings for a beautiful home being built high on a hillside overlooking the fabulous granite country to the north of Lancefield in central Victoria. Built curving around the contour of the hill, the design presents both a challenge and a great opportunity, with black flecked sassafras and stained oak featured in the joinery. Design: Marcus O'Reilly, Architect.
Major project this year was the design and making of a fourteen seat dining table and chairs for an architect design home in Albert Park. The "boat" shaped table, 3600mm long by 1400mm at its widest point was in Tasmanian Myrtle with black inlay, supported on two pedestals. The dining chairs were developed for this project, and have now been incorporated into our range as the "Kaye" chair.
This year I was also honoured to be accepted as an Accredited Member of Studio Woodworkers Australia, and worked with that organisation to promote its membership at the DesignMadeTrade exhibition in Melbourne during July.
During this year much work was done developing the design for the Boardroom Table at the Melbourne Brain Centre in Parkville. Spotted Gum was the timber selected for this dramatic table, measuring 5400mm x 2400mm at its widest point. Installed in three sections, the two supporting pedestals are located beneath the end sections, with the centre section suspended between. Fully ducted for all present and future wiring needs, the service outlets are located around the underside perimeter, leaving the tabletop clear for use for dining or formal presentation - with Lyons Architects.
